Aprox can be driven almost entirely from the keyboard on the Mac and on an iPad with a hardware keyboard. Shortcuts cover adding servers, switching tabs, refreshing, every guest power action and node power. They act on whatever is selected in the sidebar.

Where to find it

  • Mac: the shortcuts are listed next to their commands in the File, View, Guest and Node menus of the menu bar.
  • iPad with a hardware keyboard: press and hold ⌘ to see the shortcut overview. On iPads that show a menu bar, the same menus are there too.

Use the shortcuts

  1. Select a guest or node in the sidebar, for example plex or pve1.
  2. Press the shortcut, or choose the command from its menu.

A command is enabled only when the selected guest or node can do it. For example, Start is grayed out for a guest that is already running, Pause and the other virtual-machine-only actions stay grayed out for a container, and Restart Node and Shut Down Node need an online node, while Wake Node is available only for a node that is offline.

The tab shortcuts follow the order of the tabs shown for what you have selected. ⌘1 is always the first tab, Summary; for a storage, ⌘2 is Content. On the Mac the console is a window rather than a tab, so it has no number.

How they behave

  • Guest shortcuts use ⌃⌘, so they never collide with the standard ⌘-letter shortcuts of the system.
  • Guest power actions run immediately, the same as choosing them from the menu. Stop cuts power without a clean shutdown, so use ⌃⌘X with care.
  • Node shortcuts add ⇧ (⌃⇧⌘) so that a slipped finger cannot restart a hypervisor while you aim at a guest. Restart Node and Shut Down Node open the same confirmation as in the app, and shutting down still asks you to type the node's name. Wake Node sends the Wake-on-LAN packet right away, as it does in the app. See Restart, shut down and wake a node.
  • Open Console opens the console in its own window on the Mac. It needs Aprox Pro and a server that signs in with a password. On iPad, the console is a tab; switch to it with the tab shortcut.

Warning

⌃⌘X (Stop) and ⌃⌘T (Reset) act at once without a confirmation. Unsaved work inside the guest is lost.

Good to know

  • Guest and node power actions are free, so all shortcuts except Open Console work on the free plan.
  • On iPhone, the shortcuts are not available.
