You can try Aprox without a Proxmox server of your own. The demo adds two sample servers that run entirely inside the app and make no network requests. Changes you make really take effect, so you can safely practice power actions, snapshots or a migration before you do it on a real cluster.

What the demo contains

  • Homelab (Demo): a Proxmox VE cluster with the nodes pve1 and pve2. Its guests include plex, home-assistant, windows-lab, nginx, postgres and docker, plus the template debian-13-template. The storages are local, local-lvm and nas-backup.
  • Backup Vault (Demo): a Proxmox Backup Server with three datastores and backups of the demo guests.

Where to find it

The Demo Cluster button appears in the sidebar as long as you have no servers added.

Start the demo

  1. Open Aprox with no servers added. The sidebar shows No Servers.
  2. Tap Demo Cluster.

Aprox adds both sample servers to the sidebar, signs in and opens the Homelab (Demo) cluster.

Add the demo when you already have servers

The Demo Cluster button is only shown in an empty sidebar. If you already added a server, add the demo like any other server:

  1. Tap Add Server (+) in the sidebar toolbar.
  2. Enter one of these addresses as Host:
    • demo.pve.ksol.it for the sample cluster;
    • demo.pbs.ksol.it for the sample Backup Server.
  3. Enter any Username and any password.
  4. Tap Save, then tap the new server in the sidebar.

The editor recognizes the address and shows a note: "This is the Aprox sample cluster. It runs inside the app, so any username and password will do and nothing you change here leaves your device." Despite the address, Aprox does not connect to the internet for the demo.

How the demo behaves

  • Changes really take effect while the app runs: power actions, snapshots, hardware edits, migrations (about 25 seconds, with progress), node shutdown and wake.
  • Screens that change something show the note Demo cluster or Demo Backup Server: "Everything here works, including changes — but the cluster runs inside the app, so nothing leaves your device and it resets when you quit."
  • When you quit Aprox, the demo resets to its starting state.

What the demo cannot do

A few features need a real server and are not available in the demo:

  • the console (the Console tab is not shown);
  • Create VM and Create Container;
  • restoring a backup;
  • downloading to a storage, including Download from URL.

Good to know

  • The demo has no Aprox Pro exemption. On the free plan, actions that need Aprox Pro open the Aprox Pro screen, just as on a real server. Guest power actions and node power actions are free and work in the demo.
  • To remove the demo, long-press or right-click each demo server in the sidebar and choose Delete (Android: Remove Server). See Edit, sign out or remove a server.
  • The demo servers stay in your sidebar next to your own servers until you remove them.
