When the file you need is already on your device, for example a custom ISO image or a container template you built yourself, you can upload it to a storage directly from Aprox. On the Mac you can simply drag the file onto the storage's content list. Uploading needs Aprox Pro.
Where to find it
- Sidebar › your server › storage (for example local) › Content.
- Choose ISO or Templates.
- Tap Upload in the toolbar.
- Android: tap the Upload chip under the type picker.
- If the list is empty, tap Upload a File.
- Mac: you can also drag a file from Finder onto the list (see below).
Upload a file
- Tap Upload and pick the file in the file picker. You upload one file at a time.
- The Upload to Storage sheet opens (Android: Upload to storage). Check the details:
- File: the Name the file will have on the storage, and its Size. You can change the name.
- Destination: the Storage, the Node and the Type (
isoorvztmpl). These come from the storage and list you started from.
- Optional: under Verification, enter a Checksum and choose its Algorithm (None, md5, sha1, sha224, sha256, sha384 or sha512). The node checks the file after it arrives and discards it if the sum does not match.
- Tap Upload. A progress bar shows Uploading… with the percentage.
- When the upload has finished, the sheet closes and the file appears in the list.
While the upload runs, the sheet stays open and Cancel is not available.
File names Proxmox accepts
Proxmox decides by the file extension what a file is, and it rejects files with the wrong extension:
| List | Accepted extensions |
|---|---|
| ISO | .iso, .img |
| Templates | .tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.xz, .tar.zst, .tar.bz2 |
If the name does not end in one of these, Aprox warns you before you upload and the Upload button stays disabled. Rename the file in the Name field to match what it actually is.
Drag and drop on the Mac
- Open the storage's Content tab and choose ISO or Templates.
- Drag the file from Finder onto the list. A dashed frame shows where you can drop it.
- Release the file. The Upload to Storage sheet opens; continue with step 2 above.
Large files on phones and tablets
An upload cannot resume. If it is interrupted, it starts over from the beginning.
Important
For files larger than 1 GB, iPhone, iPad and Android show a warning: leaving the app or losing Wi-Fi means starting over. A Mac, or downloading from a URL, is the better choice for large images.
Requirements on the server
Your account typically needs Datastore.AllocateTemplate on the storage. If a right is missing, Aprox names the path and the privilege it needs.
Good to know
- Only ISO images and container templates can be uploaded. Backups, disk images and snippets have to reach the node another way. That is a Proxmox limit.
- If the node already has the file available on the internet, Download from a URL is faster because the file does not travel through your device.
